The transparent viewers are used for actual viewing of
coronal discharges.
The transparent viewer is made of two sheets of
thin glass, separated by a layer of a special non-toxic,
harmless electrolyte fluid. This fluid conducts the corona and it can be
viewed by looking through the glass on the other side. Bubbles in the fluid
are normal and will not affect operation.
Use the stand to hold it up while taking images of hands and fingers. Lay it down on a ground plate for viewing leaves and other specimens. You may also use a small wire to ground small objects instead of a using a ground plate.
You may clean the glass with any good glass cleaner and a soft rag.
A normal camera or video camera can be used to record the image. Simply point the camera at the image on the opposite side of the glass as the subject, and photograph the discharge.
NOTE: AN AIR POCKET WILL FORM OVER TIME
INSIDE THE GLASS. TO REMOVE THE AIR, INSERT A HYPODERMIC NEEDLE INTO THE
HOLE IN THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE FRAME, AND PUSH IT THROUGH THE SEAL UNTIL
THE TIP APPEARS IN THE GLASS. SQUEEZE THE PLATES OF GLASS TOGETHER, AND
THE AIR WILL EXIT THROUGH THE NEEDLE. UPON REMOVAL OF THE NEEDLE, THE HOLE
WILL AUTOMATICALLY SEAL.
